Somos is a community-based, immigrant led organization for worker and racial justice respecting diversity and integrating newcomers. Somos Un Pueblo Unido also has a one-stop shop for low wage workers to get trained about their rights and resources available to them. Meet Peter St. Cyr, the new executive director at the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government and an Emmy Award-winning journalist, on Sunday, April 2. Using the state’s public record laws, St. Cyr has cut through political spin, uncovered corruption and exposed fraud. A watchdog reporter for three decades, St. Cyr, who has been a journalism fellow at John Jay College, Ohio State University and with the Institute for Journalism and Justice, has published stories in the Santa Fe Reporter, ABQ Free Press, ABQ the Magazine and contributed reporting to KOB, KOAT, CNN, Westwood One, and ABC Radio. Hear examples of how public records helped expose a corrupt state senator, revealed cronyism in New Mexico’s medical cannabis program, and how New Mexico’s top open government advocate is working to strengthen and defend transparency at all levels of government.
